CRICOS Course Code: 120603H
DESCRIPTION

CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is a nationally recognised qualification designed for learners seeking supervisory, management and technical roles within the building and construction industry. The qualification reflects the role of building professionals who apply knowledge of structural principles, building codes and standards, project planning, risk management, estimating and contract administration across residential and commercial construction projects.

The course equips students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to manage building and construction projects from planning through to completion. Learners will develop competencies in reading and interpreting plans and specifications, applying building codes and compliance requirements, preparing cost estimates and tenders, scheduling and coordinating construction activities, selecting and managing contractors, supervising onsite work and administering building contracts. Students will also gain knowledge in financial management, site safety management, quality assurance, sustainability practices and construction business operations relevant to the building and construction sector.

Training is delivered through a combination of face-to-face classroom sessions, practical project-based activities, simulated workplace environments and onsite construction training activities designed to reflect real industry conditions and expectations. Learners will engage in practical learning activities using industry-relevant documentation, construction drawings, project management tools and construction scenarios to build workplace-ready skills.

The qualification supports learners who wish to progress into supervisory and management roles within the building industry and provides pathways into higher-level construction management and project management qualifications. Residential construction covered under this qualification is limited to National Construction Code (NCC) Class 1 and 10 buildings up to three storeys, while commercial construction is limited to NCC Class 2 to 9 buildings, Type C and B construction.
