CPC30620 – Certificate III in Painting and Decorating

CRICOS Course Code: 120602J
DESCRIPTION

CPC30620 Certificate III in Painting and Decorating is a nationally recognised trade qualification designed for learners seeking a career in the building and construction industry as a painter and decorator. The qualification provides students with the practical skills, technical knowledge and industry understanding required to work in residential, commercial and industrial construction environments.

The course equips students with the skills to undertake a wide range of painting and decorating tasks including surface preparation, applying paints and protective coatings, matching paint colours, applying decorative finishes, wallpapering, texture coating, spray painting, timber staining and finishing, and the safe handling and storage of painting materials and equipment. Students will also learn to prepare coated and uncoated surfaces, remove and replace doors and window components, apply advanced decorative paint finishes and work safely with lead-painted surfaces and non-friable asbestos encapsulation in accordance with workplace and safety standards.

The qualification also develops learners’ skills in workplace health and safety, planning and organising work, workplace communication, construction calculations, interpreting plans and specifications, sustainable work practices and working safely at heights. Students gain experience using industry-standard painting and decorating tools, equipment and materials within a simulated workshop environment designed to reflect real workplace conditions and expectations.

Training is delivered through a combination of classroom-based learning and practical hands-on workshop activities to ensure students develop both theoretical knowledge and job-ready practical skills. The course has been structured to support learners with little or no prior experience in painting and decorating and enables students to progressively build foundational and advanced trade competencies.

Students will complete practical activities and assessments aligned to current industry standards and workplace practices while developing problem-solving, teamwork, communication and project organisation skills relevant to the construction and decorating industry.

This qualification is suitable for individuals who wish to gain employment outcomes such as:

  • Painter
  • Decorator
  • Painting Tradesperson

The course also provides pathways into higher-level qualifications within the building and construction industry, including Certificate IV and Diploma level qualifications in Building and Construction and related trade pathways.

Successful completion of this qualification may assist learners in meeting industry expectations and licensing or regulatory requirements applicable in different Australian states and territories.
